Last night I was down at Velour to see Shrink the Giant play (Check 'em out. seriously, they've got some spectacular talent) and the ever so lovely Ryan Cluff opened for Shrink the Giant. This kid has wicked good style, total hipster. I love it. It works so well for him, super cute, he's got a feel good vibe and you can tell he's there because he wants to share his creations with others. I think that's pretty rad.
His music is simple. His voice is pure. Just Ryan and his guitar but together they create music that just leaves you wanting more.
Ryan Cluff I can't wait to see what you have in store.
So the combination of spotify and having friends with good taste in music has made me find TONS of new music. It's hard to listen to it all. This week I've been in a bluegrassy, acoustic type of music mood.
Avett Brothers
Noah and The Whale
Bombay Bicycle Club
Band of Horses
(Who I saw live last week. If you ever get the chance. Go.)
Nickel Creek
This song has spoken to me.
Found it about 1:07 AM last night. And as I was listening to the lyrics.
The story told is simple and resonant.
A plus on lyrics. Signs of good music.
It's about the joy and pain, resolution and confusion, and all the other paradoxical pieces of relationships. Even though the girl knows up front it will end in pain she puts up with so much for the experience of being close with someone. She can't complain because what she shared, to her, is worth it... but is the impending hurt and loneliness worth it? Or would she be better off not knowing any different?
And thus we see another song begging the age old question of if it is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all?
We'll continue to answer through music, poetry, and living.
This week has been rather melancholy. Been low key and I'm tired.
"I'm a good man with a good heart."
"hurts to be real"
If you haven't had the chance to listen to the new John Mayer album take a listen. It's very different from Mayer's other work but he is still the amazing guitarist. The album is not as bluesy as the other ones but it's worth a listen. Even if he does have gross long hair.
This is one of my other favorite songs from the album.
